Mary E. Adams, Ph.D.

Mary Adams is a registered U.S. Patent Agent at Matney Legal Group. She focuses primarily on innovations in the areas of organic chemistry, biology, polymers, coatings, chemical processing, and engineering.  Much of Mary’s practice is concentrated on applications in the fields of chemical manufacturing, medical devices, tissue engineering, sugar manufacturing, food technology, battery technology, composites, polymers, biochemistry, vaccine delivery systems, and pharmaceuticals. Mary’s expertise lies in quickly mastering new technologies and crafting patent applications with valuable, enforceable claims.

Her passion for patent law stems from her love of engaging with inventors, helping them shape their ideas into coherent, well-drafted patent applications. She excels at distilling complex data and invention concepts into precise patent specifications and claims, and she is particularly skilled at addressing challenges during patent prosecution, including identifying gaps in patent examiners’ logic.

Prior to joining Matney Legal Group, Mary earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and has extensive experience in research and development, as well as commercialization of new products. Before becoming a patent agent, Mary worked in Research and Development at Union Carbide Corporation. She joined the patent world in 2010 after being admitted to the USPTO bar. Her deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience with new technologies make her a trusted advisor for clients across a variety of industries.
